The Flow Settings section is the heart of Chatterfy. This is where the bot’s communication logic with the lead comes together: which messages are sent, in what order, which conditions are checked, when AI is called, when the conversation is handed over to an operator, and which data is updated during the dialogue. If Bot Settingsis the “foundation” (how the bot itself is configured), Flow Settings is the “behavior program” that this bot executes.
Flow is a scenario. One bot can contain multiple flows (for example, a main affiliate-marketing funnel + reactivation for a dormant base + a separate flow for VIP clients + support). Each flow is built on the canvas using drag-and-drop steps and lines between them. AI Settings and AI Routings define the bot’s “personality” at the scenario level — that is, the same bot can play different roles in different flows.
When to open this section
When you need to build a new funnel from scratch — create a flow + the first steps. When you want AI to respond like a person, not a robot — AI Settings (background, restrictions, style). When the funnel needs to split leads into branches — AI Routings (by the meaning of the response) or a Condition step (by exact values). When you need to transfer a ready-made funnel from another bot — import it via Create New Flow. When a working funnel needs polishing — open Steps Conversion in Analytics, find the “narrow” steps, and adjust them in Flow Settings.

Flow step types
Steps are the building blocks of any flow. Each step performs one specific action: send a message, change a status, check a condition, send an event to Tracker . Connect steps with lines — and you get
—Creating a flow— how to create a new flow or import a ready-made one from another bot. Key operation: when importing, links between steps, AI Settings, and push messages are preserved. Custom Fields and Sale Status are lost because they belong to the bot level.
—AI Settings— the bot’s personality: background (who the bot is), restrictions (what not to do), response style (how to speak). Affects all AI Reply steps in this flow. Written in English; responses to the lead can be in any language via Response Style.
—Step types— a catalog of all possible actions in a flow across 5 categories: Communication, Changes (data changes), Terms (conditions and branching), Tracking (external events), Additional (service actions).

One flow or several

A strong approach is to split different lead segments into different flows instead of trying to cram everything into one. Several common patterns:
—Affiliate marketing: main flow “cold lead → registration → FD” + separate “existing trader → reactivation” with a different bot personality. Between them — a transition via Change flow — transfer to another flowafter an FD event from the partner network.
—E-commerce: “new buyer → first order” + “existing customer → upsell” + “cart abandoned → recovery”. Each segment has its own flow, its own messages, its own rhythm.
—Support: main flow with an FAQ bot + escalation flow for the operator. AI Routings directs leads either to the main flow (standard questions) or straight to the operator (non-trivial cases).
—Online education: pre-sale flow (qualification, course sale) + onboarding flow (after payment — guidance through lessons). The bot personalities are different: “manager” and “curator”.

Where to start

It depends on the bot’s state:
Just connected the bot — Create New Flow — creating a flow(create the first flow or import a ready-made structure).
Already have a flow and need to add steps — Flow step types(step catalog, Communication first, then everything else).
Want AI responses — AI Settings — Bot Personality(define who the bot is) + AI Reply — smart replies via AI(add the step to the funnel).
Need branching based on the meaning of the response — AI Routings — semantic routing.
Need branching based on exact conditions (tags, deposit, time) — Condition — conditional branching.
Want to test new hypotheses without risk — a separate test bot + Import flow from the main one.

How it differs from Bot Settings

Bot Settings — the bot's own settings. Name, time zone, AI models, custom fields, tags, sale statuses, webhooks, Custom Fields. These parameters are the same for all flows within the bot.
Flow Settings — a specific bot scenario. Steps, transitions, the bot persona for AI Reply, routing rules. One bot can have multiple flows with different personas. For example, a bot for arbitrage can contain the flow “arbitrage lead → deposit” (persona — affiliate manager) and the flow “existing trader → reactivation” (persona — VIP manager). These two scenarios can be completely different in tone and behavior, even though they live in the same bot.

FAQ

Yes. And this is normal practice. For example: “Main flow” for the main arbitrage stream + “VIP flow” for leads with large deposits + “Reactivation flow” to bring dormant users back. You can switch between flows via the step Change flow — transfer to another flow.

This is the most common confusion. In short:
Bot Settings → Automation & AI — technical bot-level AI settings. Which models to use, how to process media.
Flow Settings → AI Settings — Bot Personality — content-related scenario-level AI settings. Who the bot is, what it does, how it speaks.

Best practice is a separate test bot. Connect a separate token, copy the flow via Create New Flow — creating a flow (Import flow), and test it on test accounts. When you're confident, move the changes back or import them into the production bot. An alternative technique is an A/B-Router inside one flow with a 95/5 split: main leads follow the proven branch, while the experimental 5% follow the new one. See A/B Router — Random Distribution.

Steps Conversion — funnel by flow steps — it shows how many leads passed through each step and where the funnel is “leaking.” If many leads accumulate at one step and almost no one moves on, there is a problem there: either the step has no transition configured, AI Routings sends them into a dead end, or Condition does not trigger.

For new steps and messages — yes, immediately. Leads that were on a specific old step at the moment of the change will continue moving through the updated structure from that step onward — meaning they will see the consequences of the change at the next transition. If you changed AI Settings or Response Style, the next AI response to these leads will already be in the new style.
