The Bot Settings → Automation & AI section brings together AI technical settings at the level of the entire bot. Which models to use (separately for logic and for generating responses), how to process media from the user (voice messages, screenshots, documents), which global variables are available in prompts. This is the “infrastructure” layer of AI — it is responsible for how AI works, not what it says.
These settings are the same for all flows and steps inside a single bot. If you need different instructions for different parts of the funnel — that is handled in AI Settings — Bot Personality(the bot’s personality at the scenario level — who the bot is, what it says, how it behaves) and the step AI Reply — smart replies via AI(the prompt at the level of a specific step — the specific goal of the response). A simple separation rule: here — technical setup, there — content.
When to open this section
You are enabling AI for a bot for the first time — choose models for logic and for responses (by default, a price/quality balance is selected, but it usually makes sense to fine-tune it). AI behaves strangely (mixes up steps, responds poorly, generates slowly) — change the Summary/Router or Reply model. Leads send screenshots with an affiliate ID and you want to extract them automatically into a
Custom Field — configure AI Recognition. You want to store reusable links and values (affiliate link, your landing page URL, offer name) — Bot Variables. What’s inside
— AI Models — separate model selection for bot logic (Summary/Router — briefly summarizes the conversation and decides where to route it) and for response generation (Reply — writes text to the lead). Balance quality and cost: you can use a lightweight inexpensive model for replies + a stronger one for routing, saving 5–10× at comparable quality. For example,
GPT-4o-mini for Reply + GPT-4o for Summary/Router is a working combination for most scenarios.— AI Recognition — processing media from the lead: voice messages (recognize as text for subsequent logic), photos (extract data — affiliate ID, deposit screenshot, document), videos, documents. With automatic writing of extracted fields to
Custom Fields — this saves the operator a lot of time, especially in niches where leads send screenshots from a broker / exchange / bank in bulk.— Bot Variables — reusable values (affiliate links, offer IDs, disclaimer texts) that you can reference from any step via
{{variables.имя}}. Change it in one place — it updates across the entire funnel. A good practice for anything that changes more than a couple of times a month.Where to start
It depends on what you need:
Just connecting AI — AI Models — Complete Guide to AI Models in Chatterfy(choose a model for Summary/Router and for Reply, leave everything else at the defaults).
Leads send screenshots — AI Recognition — media processing(enable recognition for Photo; if needed, for Voice and Documents).
The same affiliate link is used everywhere — Bot Variables — reusable values(create a variable; if needed, change it in one place — it will update across the entire funnel).
Configure the bot’s personality — AI Settings — Bot Personality(that is in
Flow Settings, not here). How this differs from AI Settings
These are often confused because the names are similar. Remember the functional distinction:
Bot Settings → Automation & AI (this page) — technical settings at the bot level. Which models, which variables, how to process media. The same for all flows inside the bot. Changed rarely (usually once every month or two, when re-optimizing cost or quality).Flow Settings → AI Settings — content-related settings at the flow level. Who the bot is, what it does, how it speaks. They can differ from flow to flow within the same bot (main funnel → affiliate program manager, reactivation → VIP assistant). They are changed often when testing prompts.A simple rule: here — “how”, there — “who and what”.
