Steps Conversion is a tool that shows how users go through your scenario step by step.
You select a sequence of steps in a flow (for example: Welcome → Qualify → Offer → FD), and Chatterfy shows:
  1. how many users reached each step
  1. what the conversion rate is between steps
  1. where the biggest lead drop-off occurs
  1. which step needs improvement.
Main idea
Steps Conversion is the main tool for optimizing a flow. Without it, you cannot understand exactly which stage users drop off at.

When to use Steps Conversion

Typical situations:
  1. you created a new flow and want to check whether it works
  1. users start the conversation but do not reach the target action
  1. you need to identify the step with the lowest conversion rate
  1. you are testing two funnel variants
  1. you want to compare results before and after changes
  1. you are preparing a report for the team or management.

How to create a funnel

1. Open Analytics → Steps Conversion

Go to Analytics→ Steps Conversion. If you do not have any funnels yet, click Create New Funnel.

2. Enter the funnel name

For example: Main Sales Funnel. Q2 Promo Funnel. Offer A Test. The name is only needed for your team.

3. Add steps

Click New Step and select:
  1. Flow — the flow where the step is located
  1. Step — a specific step.
Each funnel element is a Flow + Step pair.

4. Arrange the steps in the correct order

Steps must follow the order in which the user goes through the scenario. Example:
  1. Main Flow → Welcome
  1. Main Flow → Qualify
  1. Main Flow → Offer
  1. Main Flow → Confirm
  1. Main Flow → FD

5. Click Save

After saving, the funnel will immediately show data for the selected period.
Important
The funnel is built only from steps that actually exist. If the required step is not in Flow Settings, create it there first.
Step setup is in the Flow Settings.

How to read the funnel

After saving, you will see two blocks: a visual funnel and a table with numbers.

Visual funnel

Each block corresponds to one step.
For each step, the following is displayed:
  1. number of users
  1. percentage moving to the next step
  1. visual decrease in block size.
Example:
Step
Users
Conversion
Welcome
1 000
—
Qualify
800
80%
Offer
350
44%
FD
200
57%
In this example, the biggest drop occurs between Qualify and Offer.

Table

Below the funnel is a table with detailed data.
Column
Value
Step Name
Step name
Data
Number of users
%
Conversion relative to the previous step
Important
If the drop between two steps exceeds 50%, this is almost always a signal that the previous step needs improvement.

How to analyze drop-offs

When you find a step with a sharp drop, check:
  1. whether the text is clear to the user
  1. whether the question is too complex
  1. whether AI Reply is overloaded
  1. whether the offer matches the user’s expectations
  1. whether there are any technical errors.
For detailed analysis, use:
  1. Flow Settings— to edit the step.
  1. Show Chat Events — displaying service events— to see what happened in specific chats.

Compare Funnels — comparing two funnels

The Compare Funnels feature lets you compare two funnels at the same time.
What it’s for:
  1. A/B testing
  1. comparing the old and new versions of the scenario
  1. comparing different traffic sources
  1. analyzing results before and after changes.

Example of an A/B test

Funnel A: Welcome → Qualify → Offer A → FD.
Funnel B: Welcome → Qualify → Offer B → FD.
After comparing, you can see which version delivers a higher conversion rate.
Limitation
You can compare only two funnels at a time.

Actions menu

Each funnel has additional actions.

Change the name or list of steps
Open in Fullscreen
Open the funnel in fullscreen mode

Period selection

As in other Analytics sections, period selection is available:
  1. Today
  1. 7 Days
  1. 14 Days
  1. 30 Days
  1. 90 Days
  1. Custom Range

How the period affects the data

The funnel shows only the users who went through the selected steps during the specified period. If a user reached a step after the selected period ended, they will not be included in the statistics for that step.

Important details

A user is counted once at each step

If a user completed the Welcome step, went back, and completed Welcome again, they will be counted only once in the statistics.

Returns are not displayed separately

Steps Conversion shows only whether steps were completed, but does not show loops and returns.

The funnel is built only based on steps

You cannot create a funnel based on:
  1. tags
  1. events
  1. custom fields.
For analytics on affiliate program events, use Tracker Conversion — conversion from conversation to RD.

Practical examples

Find the weak spot in the flow

Funnel: Welcome — 1000. Qualify — 800. Offer — 350. FD — 200.
Conclusion: the problem is between Qualify and Offer.
What to do:
  1. check the Offer text
  1. improve AI Reply
  1. simplify the offer
  1. test another option.

Compare two offers

Two versions are launched: Offer A and Offer B.
After analysis, you can see that Offer B generates 25% more FD. Decision: make Offer B the main option.

Quarterly report

Set the period to 90 Days.
Build the funnel.
Click Save Image.
Compare with the previous quarter.

What you need to understand

Steps Conversion ≠ Tracker Conversion

Steps Conversion shows how users move through steps in Flow Settings. Example: Welcome → Qualify → Offer → FD.
Tracker Conversion shows partner events. Example: Subscribe → Registration → FD → RD.
