The Changes category is steps that change lead or conversation attributes without sending messages. A tag is added or removed, the sale status is updated, an operator is assigned or unassigned, or the lead is moved to another flow from a specific step. The lead does not see these steps — they are service operations that prepare data for subsequent logic or for the operator team.
These steps are the foundation of automation. Without them, the bot turns into an “answering machine” that does not remember the results of the conversation. With them, every lead response, every event from Tracker — Overview, every AI decision leaves a trace in the customer profile: a tag, status, operator, or transfer to another funnel. The same information is then visible in Messenger(lead profile), Users(database filtering), Analytics(conversion by segment).
Which step to use when
Tag a VIP lead after a large deposit — Change Tag. Move them to a reactivation-flow after successful registration — Change Flow. Update the sale status (Registration → FD → RD) — Change Sale Status. Distribute chats among operators or assign a specific manager — Operator. They often come after AI Reply (which has clarified something with the lead) or after Tracking steps (which received an event from the affiliate network).

Change tag — add or remove a tag
The Change tag step automatically assigns or removes tags. It is used as part of flow logic: “after registration — Registered tag,” “if a lead is routed to the “objection” Routing — HasObjection tag.”
Change flow — transfer to another flow
The Change flow step moves a lead from the current flow to another flow of the same bot. You can specify the exact step in the new flow where the dialog should continue. It is used to split the bot lo
Change sale status — update the sale stage
The Change sale status step automatically assigns to a lead. Unlike tags, there is only one sale-status at a time—the new one replaces the previous one. Used to track sales funnel stages: “Subscriptio

—Change Tag— add or remove a tag from a lead. Supports adding/removing one or more tags at a time. The tag catalog is created in Tags — tags for segmentation.
—Change Flow— move a lead to another flow and specify a particular starting step. The main mechanism for connecting several funnels within one bot.
—Change Sale Status— update the stage of the sales funnel. The status catalog is created in Sale Status — sales funnel stages. One status per lead at a time.
—Operator— assign an operator to a chat or remove the operator from it. With probability — for even workload distribution among managers. Visibility for specific operators is configured through Assign Manager — chat distribution.

Use cases by segment

Changes steps are the most “business-oriented” of all. Specific scenarios:
—Affiliate marketing: after a Registration event from the affiliate network (a reverse signal comes to Tracker through Send Event) — Change Sale Status to FD-pending, Change Tag “registered”. After an FD event — Change Sale Status to FD-confirmed, Change Tag “depositor”, Change Flow to the reactivation funnel.
—E-commerce: after payment — Change Sale Status to “paid”, Change Tag “buyer”, Operator to the manager who handled the conversation. After delivery — Change Sale Status to “delivered”, Change Flow to follow-up to request a review.
—Support: AI decided that a human is needed → Operator with probability evenly across the on-duty shift + Change Tag “escalated”. After the operator closes the ticket — Change Sale Status to “resolved”.
—Info products: after course payment — Change Tag by plan (“basic”, “premium”, “vip”), Change Flow to the onboarding funnel. After completing the first module — Change Tag “started”; after completion — “completed”.

FAQ

Nothing. These steps change only attributes on the Chatterfy side — tags, status, operator assignment. The lead does not receive notifications. If you want to inform the lead about a status change (for example, “you have received VIP access”), put Send Message or AI Reply as the next step.

Yes, through a paired Change Tag step with the “Remove” action or Change Sale Status by returning to the previous status. The change history is visible in the lead profile in Messenger (events tab). There is no direct “undo last action” button, but the history is always visible.

The lead “lands” on the specified starting step of the new flow and continues the conversation from there. The chat history is preserved (it is tied to the chat, not to the flow). AI Settings is replaced with the new flow’s Settings — that is, the bot’s persona for the next AI response is already different. This is a powerful technique for changing the tone between segments.

Yes. The Change Tag step supports multiple tags in a single call. And in general, a single lead can have any number of tags at the same time (unlike Sale Status, where there is only one at any given moment). This is the main technique for flexible segmentation: VIP + GEO-RU + FB-source + depositor — four tags, and the lead matches any filter based on these criteria.

If the Operator step lists multiple managers with probability (for example, Alice 50%, Bob 30%, Christina 20%), Chatterfy randomly selects one of them with the specified probability each time the step is passed. This provides even (or weighted) load distribution. Chat visibility for the selected operator is controlled through Assign Manager — chat distribution (if “own + unassigned” is enabled, other operators can also take over).
