How to add a subdomain

Поддомен — это отдельный адрес внутри уже подключённого основного домена (offer.example.com, promo.example.com). Технически — это просто новая DNS-запись в зоне Cloudflare. Не нужно менять nameservers повторно, не нужно настраивать SSL отдельно (он наследуется от основного).
This guide takes 5-10 minutes. It is suitable when you need several isolated addresses for different GEOs, different offers, or different buyers on a single domain.
Что подготовить
A connected primary domain in Cloudflare (if not done, see How to add a domain to Cloudflare). Доступ к Cloudflare. Имя поддомена — например, us для us.example.com, forex для forex.example.com.

Steps

    Open the primary domain in Cloudflare

    Go to cloudflare.com → select your primary domain. It should be in Active status. If it is not Active, first complete How to add a domain to Cloudflare.

    Go to DNS → Records

    DNS Records section — this is where all your records are located.

    Create a new record

    Add record. Fill in the following:
    — Type = CNAME.

    — Target = tracker.chatterfy.ai.
    — Proxy status = Proxied (оранжевая иконка).

    Check SSL

    Add the subdomain to Chatterfy

    Once the DNS record is active (5-15 minutes after creation), add the subdomain to Chatterfy via How to add a domain in Chatterfy. Указывайте полный адрес — us.example.com (не просто us).

    Check in the browser

    Open https://us.example.com in your browser. The Tracker should open without SSL errors (even if nothing is displayed on the domain itself — the important thing is that there is no certificate error).
What needs to be done
A new Type=CNAME record has appeared in Cloudflare DNS Records, Name=your_name, Target=tracker.chatterfy.ai. The subdomain opens via https without SSL errors. The subdomain is added to Chatterfy via How to add a domain in Chatterfy and is visible in the Domain selector when creating a campaign.


DNS Record Fields

— Type = CNAME (canonical name). This is a record that "points to another name".
— Name = subdomain name only, without the main domain. Cloudflare will substitute the rest.
— Target = tracker.chatterfy.ai — this is the Chatterfy server. It does not change.
— Domain (in Chatterfy) — the full subdomain address (us.example.com), not just the prefix.


Why subdomains are needed

One domain can be used for all campaigns (and this is acceptable), but subdomains provide isolation and convenience:
  • — GEO segmentation: us.example.com, de.example.com, br.example.com — each for its own region. Helps with local reputation and reporting.
  • — Offer segmentation: forex.example.com, crypto.example.com, dating.example.com — we isolate the reputation of each vertical.
  • — Isolation between media buyers: ivan.example.com, maria.example.com — each has their own address. If one account is banned, the others are not affected.
  • — Landing page A/B testing: different subdomains for different page versions.
What is important to consider
A subdomain is a separate object in Chatterfy. After creating the DNS record in Cloudflare, you must also add the subdomain in How to add a domain in Chatterfy — otherwise it will not appear in the campaign selector. Cloudflare's limit on the free plan is up to 1000 DNS records per domain (virtually unlimited). Cloudflare caches DNS for 5 minutes — if you make a change, the new record will be picked up within this time. If the subdomain is 4th-5th level (e.g., a.b.example.com) — Name = a.b (written with a dot).


FAQ

Cloudflare on the free plan is effectively without restrictions (up to 1000 records per zone). The Tracker has no limit either. People actually connect 5, 50, and 200 subdomains.

Technically, yes, via punycode (e.g., xn--.). But it is not recommended: advertising platforms do not work well with such URLs, and users do not trust them. Use Latin characters.

Check: the DNS record is indeed saved in Cloudflare (DNS → Records — it is there), Type = CNAME (not A), Target = tracker.chatterfy.ai, Proxied (orange icon), SSL of the main domain in Active. Open a third-party service — intodns.com or whatsmydns.net — enter the subdomain and check if it is visible. If it is visible — the problem is in Chatterfy (see How to add a domain in Chatterfy). If it is not visible — the DNS is still propagating, please wait.

No, the main domain must be in Cloudflare. If the main one is with another DNS provider — transfer it to Cloudflare first ( How to add a domain to Cloudflare), then add subdomains.

Cloudflare automatically issues an SSL certificate for the entire main domain and its subdomains (Universal SSL). If SSL for a subdomain is not working: check the mode in How to Set Up SSL (must be Flexible, active), and ensure that Proxied is enabled for the subdomain. Sometimes, SSL for a new subdomain is issued with a 5-15 minute delay — please wait.
